The absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
“The absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” by Sherman Alexie
The novel by Alexie “The absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” is an inspiring story that touches several family and real life issues. The story emphasizes on the importance of love and how our weakness can not hinder us from success. Though out the novel, the author uses humor to soften some of the difficult emotions that he builds. Using the protagonist “Junior” he is able to clearly explain themes such as love, misfit and social is a very logical manner. Rather than using sufficient characterization, the success of the story is brought about by systematic and careful arrangement of thoughts through the chapters.
In the first chapter of the story the narrator uses weakness to draw readers attention. He focuses on the health and physical challenges of the protagonist to show that any body can struggle to and finally attain success. By the fact that he uses unchangeable weakness such as health and physical appearance of the protagonist he succeeds in showing the reader that we may not necessary manage to change our weakness but we can learn how to live with them as Junior continued to work on his artistic talent despite his weakness.
In this chapter the author uses the protagonist to show that by accepting ourselves we can finally get others to accept us. The character accepts his status and does not concentrate on his weakness, instead he joins school and builds a relationship with his family; sister. As a result he discovers that he is humorous and loves women. I strongly feel that the author succeeds in depicting the story to be possible in real life when he talks about junior’s personal habits and the fact that he learns how to cope with them.
As the novel continues the excellent achievement of self confidence assist in building good characters such as love and socialization. In this chapter, the author concentrates on how beautiful the reservation is and that both Junior and his best friend Rowdy attained their dream. This shows that even people from different backgrounds and of different physical appearance can all achieve their dreams.
